Arthur Stovell

Website design that brings your brand online.

I’m Arthur Stovell, a freelance graphic and website designer based in Shoreham-by-Sea, near Brighton. I design websites that help people understand what an organisation does and find their way around, with clear layouts and a visual approach connected to its brand identity.

Start with what the website needs to do

A new website or a redesign begins with understanding its purpose and audience. What do people need to know? Which information should they find first? What would you like them to do next?

Before visual design, it helps to agree the main pages, the content they need and the routes between them. This gives the design a structure based on the organisation and its visitors, rather than a collection of attractive screens.

Bring the brand identity into the website

Typography, colour, imagery and layout should feel like parts of the same identity. A website can carry an existing brand online or be developed alongside a new visual identity, depending on the brief.

For ROKA, restrained typography and material-led imagery connect the website to its concrete composites. For Brighton Veterinary Cardiology, the website carries the practice’s heartbeat-inspired identity into a clear digital setting.

Clear layouts across different screen sizes

A layout needs to remain understandable when the available space changes. Navigation, text hierarchy, image placement and calls to action all need consideration on smaller screens as well as desktop.

Thoughtful typography and spacing help people distinguish the main message from supporting detail. The aim is a website that communicates clearly without losing the character of the organisation behind it.

Agree the design scope and the build

Website design and website development are different parts of a project. Agree which pages and layouts need designing, who will build the site and how content will be managed before work begins.

The brief should also clarify the design files needed for development, responsibility for copy and images, and arrangements for hosting and ongoing updates. A particular platform, development service or maintenance package should not be assumed to be included.
